etree:notes
  • Because I walked out the door without the usual Yamaha Digital Recorder we use nearly every show, we used our drummer, Jamie's recorder. Happy to have a recording of what was a very good night; good crowd, good jams, Kate was amazingly great on her first show with us. Big thanks to Jamie for having the means to capture the jam. On the downside, the recorder appears to have an auto-level feature enabled for volume, so the sound fluxuates with the dynamics (you can really hear it with the cymbals). Also the bass guitar was very loud and it too dictated the auto-levelling. This also created some over-modulation (crunch) in places that could not be removed. I dragged it through Soundforge, attempted to quell some excess bass without killing the needed low tones and did my best to salvage the night's recording and make it listenable.
